Perspective Magazine

Editorial design developed at Wills Brand Design – Designer

As part of the design team at Wills Brand Design, I led the redesign of the magazine, working closely with the Creative Director to evolve its visual direction.

Perspective is a global architectural magazine for the quantity surveyor and property consultancy firm Rider Levett Bucknall (RLB). Released twice a year, this digital magazine brings together different topics relevant to the changing landscape of property and construction. It educates, inspires and challenges the reader on their outlooks on the industry and the world, taking an angle on key issues and new innovations, sustainable materials, architectural designs and the role of technology in built environment.

The brief was revitalising the magazine, giving it a contemporary makeover to align the magazine closer to its premium standing. Elements to be kept were the PERSPECTIVE masthead, the RLB blue as the baseline colour and Gotham as the main typeface. Without the budget for photographers, we would need to either use photos supplied or stock photography. Using stock photos to convey complex and location specific topics can be challenging, so a montage like illustration style combining photos, textures, symbols and keywords, was created as an option to represent these topics. Secondary colours were drawn from individual article for a more engaging look and feel.
